There are times when sports can mean something larger than just the numbers in the box score. The strength of college basketball player Lauren Hill has consistently been one of those moments.

Hill has captivated and inspired a nation with her determination and perseverance. Despite being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and given a prognosis of just a few more weeks to live, she has fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a college athlete. Even better, she's scored in multiple games this year.

USA Today recently spoke to Hill about her fight, and released her statements on Tuesday. Hill said that she was initially "angry" at her diagnosis, but soon focused instead on the time spent with her family, because "all we have is the moment we have right now."

Hill also said she was overwhelmed with the compassion people have shown her nationwide. “There’s a lot of good people in the world. I would never have guessed how many,” she said.

In the end, Hill leaves her audience with one final equest “I want everybody to know I never give up, even though I have my low moments and I feel like giving up...If I do pass, I don’t want people to say I lost. I want, ‘She kicked DIPG’s [diffuse intrinsic pontine glimoma] butt and raised a lot of money for research.’”
