Chad Johnson is due back in court on June 3, after posting bond on probation violation charges and being released late Monday, according to CBSMiami.com.
Johnson, 35, was taken into custody by Broward County police earlier in the day after he appeared before an area judge for a probation violation hearing and she remanded him to custody. The former NFL star, who last played for the New England Patriots, posted his bond of $1,000 hours later.
The violations charges against Johnson stemmed from a 2012 domestic violence conviction on which he pled no contest to charges of attacking his then reality TV-star wife Evelyn Lozado. TMZ reports the two were quarreling over accusations Johnson was having an affair after Lozada found a receipt for a box of condoms.
On Monday, Johnson told the judge he was as surprised as anyone to find himself in such straits. “As far as the warrant, it caught me off guard,” TMZ reported Johnson told the judge. “I was under the impression after seeing you the last time that all I had to do was my classes based off the wording…That’s what I did. I didn’t do any of this on purpose. I did everything I was supposed to do, and that’s all.”
Probation officials had sought an arrest warrant after they claimed Johnson had repeatedly missed scheduled meetings and had failed to show prove he had registered for a court-mandated violence education class.
Johnson and Lozado were wed in a lavish 2012 ceremony, only to find themselves in divorce court just months later.
