Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally discussed a super fight with Manny Pacquiao last Friday on Showtime with commentator Steve Farhood and called out the Filipino superstar to face him on May 2, 2015. Amir Khan, who soundly defeated Devon Alexander on Saturday night, has his own reasoning for why Mayweather's bringing up Pacquiao.
Boxingscene.com reported that Mayweather and his team left a nightclub upon hearing that Amir Khan and his own group were there partying, evidence that Mayweather is actually afraid of Khan.
"I heard he was in the same club in Vegas where we had the after-party but he was downstairs and I was upstairs. He walked in with 30 people with him. Maybe he ran away when he heard I was there. He wanted me to prove myself and I have done exactly that. Floyd is just trying to get into my head to try and disrupt me. It won't work though," Khan said.
Khan has repeatedly called out Mayweather and claimed that he has the right combination of attributes to hand him his first loss. He also said he has better credentials than Pacquiao that should place him ahead in the Maywether sweepstakes.
"I'm younger, I'm faster and I box better than Manny Pacquiao. I've got youth behind me and I have a new trainer, which has made a massive difference in my training, being in the Bay Area and getting away from all the distractions in LA," Khan said in October.
Beating Alexander marked his third straight victory, and second win at 147 pounds. On Friday night though Mayweather, at least outwardly, seemed focused on Pacquiao alone.
"We are ready. Let's make it happen. May 2. Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. Let's do it," Mayweather said. "I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. We tried to make the fight happen years ago; we had problems with random blood and urine testing."
