The St. Louis Cardinals (28-15) and the San Diego Padres (20-23) will open their series at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif., on Monday night. The first pitch will take place at 10:10 p.m. ET and can be streamed with a paid subscription on mlb.com or for free here.

St. Louis will start rookie right-hander Shelby Miller (5-2). Miller is coming off of a scoreless no decision start against the New York Mets and is tied with the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw for the majors' lowest ERA at 1.40.

"It's not always going to be smooth," he said. "I got away with some mistakes."

Miller went 5.2 innings during his last part and threw 96 pitches. St. Louis would eventually win the game 4-2 over New York. Miller had previously pitched in a one-hiter effort against Colorado in which he struck out a season-high 13 batters to gain his fifth win of the season.

Jason Marquis (5-2) will get the start for the Padres. The right-hander currently holds a 3.49 ERA and is coming off a five inning, two earned run effort in which he captured his fifth win of the season.

Marquis is looking to win five straight outings for the first time since April 16-May 9, 2007, when he was a member of the Chicago Cubs. During that span, Marquis held a 2.45 ERA.

St. Louis, beginning an eight-game trip with this three-game set, is a major league-best 24-10 against right-handed starters this season. The two clubs are meeting for the first time since splitting six 2012 matchups, with the home team winning every time. San Diego scored 20 runs in its Sept. 10-12 sweep.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has thrown out seven of 20 runners attempting to steal when he's been behind the plate. He will be up against a Padres club that leads the majors with 38 steals.
