Seattle Reserve Quarterback Josh Portis Arrested For DUI

Reserve Seattle Seahawks quarterback Josh Portis has been jailed for suspicion of DUI, according to Philly.com

Portis, 25, was arrested earlier this month and now faces DUI charges and an upcoming court appearance after blood tests revealed a higher-than-legal blood alcohol level of more than ten times higher than Washington's legal limit of .08.

The 25-year-old had just signed a two-year contract for $480,000 a year in April and was expected to compete for the backup job to starter Russell Wilson. Since his signing, the Seahawks have also brought in Brady Quinn and Jerrod Johnson to compete for spots on the team's depth chart.

A native of California, the 6’3’’ Portis has had an up-and-down last few seasons. After washing out at the University of Florida and the University of Maryland, he transferred to Division II California University of Pennsylvania, where he set school records in passing yards and touchdowns.

The Seahawks signed him after a strong 2011 training camp, before demoting him to the practice squad in 2012 and cutting him from the roster in late November. The team resigned him in April, just before also inking Quinn, who of all the projected backups is the only one to have NFL starting experience.
