Former NFL star Johnson remains behind bars on $1,000 bond after being taken into custody earlier today on a parole violation charge stemming from a domestic abuse conviction involving ex-wife and reality show star Evelyn Lozado.
According to E-Online News, Johnson, 35, was arrested after turning himself into Broward County police and Judge Kathleen McHugh deemed he had in fact violated his probation by now appearing for at least two scheduled meetings with his probation officer and now showing proof of enrollment in a court-mandated domestic violence education class. Prosecutors asked the judge to sentence him to 60 days.
E-Online also reported, Johnson tried to explaining to the judge he “didn’t do anything on purpose” and the whole episode was just a big “misunderstanding.” Seemingly unimpressed by his pleas, she immediately remanded him to custody.
Johnson pleaded no contest last year in an attack on his newlywed wife that TMZ reported stemmed from an argument the couple was having over an affair he was alleged to be having. Back then, he was sentenced to 12 months' probation and ordered to spend 26 weeks in battery-intervention counseling.
The couple wed in a lavish 2012 ceremony, only to wind up in divorce court a few months later amid widespread accusations of abuse. TMZ adds Lozado recently had her lawyer’s fire off a cease and desist letter to Johnson over comments he made about her over the internet.
