Josh Gordon looked spectacular in his first game back after his 10-game suspension, but he has failed to impress in two games since. The Cleveland Browns wide receiver admitted recently that he has struggled to learn the playbook, but he insists that effort is not the issue.
According to media reports, Gordon has been constantly working to get up to speed with the offense. He is hoping to bounce back after an extremely poor showing against the Colts that saw him catch just two passes for a total of 15 yards. The Colts won by coming from behind, and the loss sparked head coach Mike Pettine's decision to install Johnny Manziel as the team's starting quarterback.
Gordon has received his fair share of criticism for the poor performance, and some have started questioning his effort. There were even whispers that Gordon intentionally underperformed in order to facilitate the team's decision to make a change at quarterback.
3 Key Rematches Highlight Week 15
"There's no reason why I would even think or do something like that," said Gordon. "It's like trying to throw a game on purpose. Nobody wants to do that, if you like a guy or don't like a guy. I love Brian. He's been here since I first got here just about. He was my quarterback last year. He's a competitor. Nothing wrong with him. I've never even played with Johnny. That's crazy to think that."
The coaching staff has said that they finally feel like Gordon is back into game shape, so perhaps this will be the week that he finally finds the end zone and hits on one of the big plays that made him such a star last year during his breakout campaign.
