A balky knee and the NBA playoffs weren't going to keep Dwyane Wade from missing his prom night.
The 31-year-old star of the Miami Heat spent his Friday night attending Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School's senior prom with Nicole Muxo, a senior who asked Wade to be her date on April 20 via a YouTube video, according to multiple reports.
Miami news station WSVN-TV reported that Wade surprised the teen and her classmates Friday night at her prom at La Jolla Ballroom in Coral Gables.
"She actually DM'd me on Twitter and said, 'This is the address, this is where I'm gonna be just in case,' and when I got that I said I won't be doing nothing tomorrow night and I can go and make this a memorable moment for her," the station reported Wade as saying.
"I'm gonna remember it forever. This was my highlight of my senior year," Muxo told the TV station.
Wade and the Heat are in the NBA Eastern Conference finals, having eliminated the Chicago Bulls in five games, with the finale on Wednesday. Miami will play the Indiana Pacers, who eliminated the New York Knicks in six games, with the clincher taking place Saturday night.
Wade tweeted how much fun he had turning back the clock.
"I had a blast at prom," Wade said on Twitter. "Never be [too] scared to ask... they might just say yes. Dreams do come true."
The 2006 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player has missed one playoff game this season because of an injured right kneecap, and he has been playing through the injury throughout the postseason.
Sports Illustrated reported that Wade's knee did not bother him during a night of dancing.
In her YouTube video, Muno obviously caught Wade's attention.
"Hey Dwyane Wade, my name is Nicole and my senior prom is coming up," Muxo said, while wearing a black Wade jersey, in the video. "I have everything set up for a perfect night except for one thing: a perfect date. So since you're my favorite basketball player, I was wondering: Will you go to prom with me?"
Friday night, he did just that.
