As the Ohio State Buckeyes prepare for the College Football Playoff, where they'll meet No. 1 Alabama, they will be dealing with off-field problems involving one of the key players that got them to this point. Quarterback J.T. Barrett had the police called to his on-campus apartment following a dispute with his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

According to reports, both Barrett and his girlfriend called police separately and told different stories. The ex-girlfriend told cops that Barrett choked her with his forearm and "flung" her across a room. She also claimed Barrett "put his elbow all in my throat and stuff."

Barrett told authorities that she wouldn't leave his apartment and that she charged him. He claims to only have pushed her away in self-defense.

Barrett has a broken ankle that he suffered during Ohio State's final regular season game, a win over Michigan, and missed their blowout win over the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten title game.

Barrett was one of the biggest surprises of the college football season; as a redshirt freshman he stepped in for Braxton Miller, a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, and led the Buckeyes seamlessly to a 12-1 record. They were spotless in-conference, going 9-0 with only the Minnesota Golden Gophers approaching them in competitiveness.

In 12 games Barrett flirted with Heisman contention, throwing for 2,824 yards and 34 touchdowns with a completion rate of 64.6 percent. He gashed opponents on the ground as well, toting the rock 171 times for 938 yards and 11 touchdowns.
