Vick Chastises Critics As 'Ignorant'

Michael Vick has known his share of critics over the course of his up and down careers. Apparently, all his experiences have left him with one, singular opinion.

“I’m really tempted right now to just say no comment to that because like I said a second ago, you don’t last 12 years in the NFL not being able to read the defense,” Vick told local radio station 97.5 The Fanatic this week.

“Those people who are talking and saying that are just ignorant, and they know nothing about football.” Show host Mike Missanelli also gave Vick a chance to counter those who would argue he doesn’t read defenses quickly enough and often holds on to the ball too long.  “But it’s incorrect,” Vick told Missanelli. “Without getting sensitive about it, it’s incorrect. So I’d rather not talk about it.”

As for all those blown plays and missed opportunities last season, Vick tried that a lot of the problems stemmed from bad plays being called or the wrong routes being run. “We had a lot of deeper throws last year, which required more time,” Vick told Missanelli. “It’s just a big difference. Not to say there was anything wrong with the west coast system, I loved it. I spent seven years in it, and it was cool. But I think the change of pace for me at this point in my career is good and the game is a lot easier now.”

Vick also addressed his fumbling issue, and stated that new coach Chip Kelly has taught him a new way to carry the ball. “Chip told me how to run with the football the other day,” he told Missanelli. “He taught me how to run with the football and how to carry the football, and I think it’s something that you just have to work on.”
