The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is battling allegations of fraud, and increasingly fewer cities are willing to host the Olympics due to their prohibitive costs. The IOC just approved dozens of new rules aimed at making it more appealing to host the Olympics.

According to media reports, the IOC wants to address concerns about the cost of hosting the games and perceived mismanagement within the organization. One of the big changes will allow multiple cities or even multiple countries to host the same Olympics. The committee also wants to increase transparency and included rules for auditing so that people will believe that the organization is doing everything it can to fight corruption.

Last month, the IOC published a document called 20+20 that describes 40 recommendations for improving the operations of the organization. At the IOC's 127th annual session, held over the weekend, every single recommendation was approved unanimously.

In addition to easing the burdens on the host's finances and infrastructure, the IOC also wants to make the games more sustainable. The bidding process is being streamlined, and there will be caps on the number of events and athletes at the games. Labor standards are also being instituted after the reports coming out of Brazil about the conditions that workers are enduring while preparing for the 2016 games.

The IOC is making a lot of promises with these changes, but they are necessary. The organization has lost the faith of many of the countries that compete in the Olympics and more importantly, the countries that routinely vie to host the games.
