Madden 25 New Features: RGIII, Kaepernick Run Feature Allows Multiple Move Combos

The versatile quarterbacking styles of Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III have even inspired a new feature in the Madden video game series.

When Madden NFL 25 hits stores in late August, EA Sports confirms it will have a new feature for ball carriers called Run Free that multiplies the number of moves playmakers can make.

Even though the new feature is essentially groomed for running backs, players will also be able to make use of it when using receivers or when defensive players recover turnovers.

“Last year was an incredibly special year when you look at the quarterbacks,” Anthony Stevenson, Sr. Director of Marketing for EA Sports told USA Today. The RG III’s, the Russell Wilsons, the Colin Kaepernicks – they really changed the way offenses play in this league. It feels so much different – the pistol offense, the read option – it feels a lot different to me than the wildcat where you might throw in a couple plays but in a couple of years it kind of faded away. This doesn’t feel like that at all.”

Stevenson added the game will go from allowing roughly eight moves to as many as 38. “The thing that players like RGIII are so good at is putting different moves together at one time,” he said. “In the past, if you were going to do a spin move in Madden, you’d have to complete your spin move before you could do something else. These guys today start with a spin move and then decide ‘I’m going to plant real quick and juke right.’”
