In an age in the women's tennis realm where Caroline Wozniacki, Simona Halep and Eugenie Bouchard have joined Maria Sharapova in the battle to take down Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska made a bold statement Monday.

Tennis.com reported that Radwanska, the world's No. 6 player, has hired former No. 1 player Martina Navratilova as her coach. She will continue working with current coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.

Radwanska called Navratilova her idol.

"We are originally from a similar part of the world so we share an understanding about tennis and life," she said, according to BBC Sport, "which I'm sure will translate into a successful relationship."

The 58-year-old and 18-time Grand Slam champion expressed a certain giddiness at the prospect of working with Radwansa.

"I can't wait to get started on this new phase of my career and I am really excited," she said, according to BBC Sport. "I was delighted when Agnieszka asked me if I would collaborate with Tomasz. "I did not sleep very well last night, thinking about getting back into match mode and the competitions."

Radwanska was a 2012 Wimbledon finalist, a 2013 Wimbledon semifinalist and a 2014 Australian Open semifinalist.

Radwanska is the third top-10 player to change coaches this year. Halep parted with Belgian coach Wim Fissette to hire fellow Romanian Victor Ionita. Fissette helped Halep climb from No. 10 to No. 2 (she finished at No. 3 at the end of the 2014 season).

Bouchard, who burst onto the scene in 2014, climbed from No. 31 to No. 5 in the world before suffering a late-season slump that resulted in three pool-play losses at the season-ending WTA Finals in Singapore.

She finished the year No. 7.
