The referees briefly stole the spotlight during a game between the Denver Broncos and the Buffalo Bills yesterday. Following a C.J. Anderson rushing touchdown for Denver, two of the referees that ruled the play a touchdown exchanged a fist bump at the goal line.

According to media reports, Bills players noticed the move, and they were less than thrilled about it. Bills safety Aaron Williams took to Twitter to express his displeasure over the incident, and he even went so far as to insinuate that the referees were biased against the Bills.
No excuse for my performance but can't win playing 16 vs 11 thought I seen it all Smh https://t.co/CrfVO2YxA6

Williams added that he will stand by his comments even if they earn him a fine. "I don't care if I do get fined,'' Williams told The Associated Press on Monday. "I speak the way I feel, and that's the way I feel.''
The NFL did not see a problem with the gesture, and they indicated that the referees were simply acknowledging good work by one another in correctly ruling the play.
"It was an acknowledgement of good mechanics between the two officials involved in making the call,'' said NFL spokesman Michael Signora.
The Broncos defeated the Bills 24-17 in the game, and it was an important game for both teams. Denver's win allowed them to stay in the hunt for the top seed in the AFC. They currently sit at 10-3 and are tied with the New England Patriots atop the conference, one game ahead of the Indianapolis Colts.
The loss dropped the Bills to 7-6 and dealt a severe blow to their playoff chances. After all of the tiebreakers sort out, Buffalo ranks 11th in the standings, meaning they will likely need to win out and receive help in the form of losses by other teams in order to qualify for the postseason.
