Vince Young Earns Texas Degree

Keeping a promise he made to his mother, Vince Young has earned enough credits to receive his degree from the University of Texas.

Young returned to university the last several semesters to finish work on his B.A. and will be among the class of students awarded their degrees later this month.

“This will rank No. 1 because it is what I came to school for,” Young told CBSSports.com. “I came here to get an education, and to win a national championship. And now, I get to put that smile on my mom’s face.”

Young added the accomplishment makes him the first in his family to graduate from college and the sense of fulfillment he now feels is even greater than he imagined. “Just finishing what I started,” he added.  “That is the type of guy I am. I do hard work, even when the times are good or bad.”

The 30-year-old, seven-year NFL vet has already set his sights on a career, or at least the resumption of one. After being out of the league last season, Young remains as committed to his comeback effort as ever before.

“Just finish what you started,” he said. “From my ma, that’s where I got my fire any my push to be happy with what life gives you.”
