CM Punk is entering the octagon.

The former WWE superstar is joining the UFC, the organization announced Saturday night. It will be Punk's (real name Phil Brooks) first foray into mixed martial arts fighting.

"This is my new career, 100 percent," CM Punk said in a statement obtained by ESPN.com. "I'm going to go full steam ahead, all systems go after today, and it's going to be fun."

Punk is expected to make his debut in mid-2015.

Punk's UFC signing obviously made instantaneous news across the industry. For instance, fellow fighting star Ronda Rousey was predictably shocked and excited by the news.

Punk may even have his first opponent all but lined up. On Sunday John David Frank, the actor best known for playing the green Power Ranger in Fox's 90s kids show, laid down the gauntlet. Now that's a bout that would be worth the price of pay-per-view.
