Former WWE Superstar CM Punk announched Saturday night that he is officially joining UFC and the WWE has responded to the "Best in the World" joining one of their premiere competitors while Punk revealed his plans now that he's part of the organization.

Punk, who was with his wife and WWE Diva AJ Lee, announced in a press conference at UFC 181 on Saturday that he will in fact enter the octagon at some point.

Punk, who made waves with his interview on Colt Cabana's podcast last week by chronicling what led to his WWE departure, said he signed a contract with UFC on Oct. 22 when he was completely free from the WWE.

Punk also said it was an easy decision for him to join UFC while his signing was supposed to be a big announcement last month at a press conference, but the deal wasn't done in time. Punk also added that he won't "cherry pick" his training partners while he also said he's off of Twitter for now to avoid negative fans.

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that Punk also said that he has been a fan of UFC for a long time and that he's been thinking about fighting for a while. Punk also said that UFC president Dana White is excited to have him on board.

He said that the two sides had some dialogue in the past, but he couldn't sign on until he was officially clear from the WWE. Punk also said he is looking to earn respect and that he hopes other fighters won't use wrestling as a way to insult him.

Punk said he isn't sure when his debut will be as he won't accept a fight until he is ready. He said he could train every day for up to six months before opting to step into the cage. He also said it feels like a dream come true while it's the first time he's had butterlies and felt nervous in a long time, but he has the support of a lot of people, including Lee.

The WWE has reacted to the news of Punk signing a multi-year UFC deal by deleting his company-controlled Facebook page on Saturday night. It remains to be seen if the company will remove him from its Alumni section and if his merchandise will continue to be sold.

Lee, who remains a WWE employee, took to Twitter to congratulate Punk:

Punk's post-WWE career is underway as he is now officially a part of the UFC.
