With both the Florida Gators and Nebraska Cornhuskers having landed their number one coaching choices, all eyes are on Michigan to see if the Wolverines can follow suit. UM is about to have their fourth coach in eight years, and desperately need some stability and forward-thinking vision in order to reassert their hegemony in a changing college football landscape.

Three Candidates to Replace Brady Hoke at Michigan

Although interim AD Jim Hackett has said publicly that he's going to approach the vetting process for a head coach in a deliberate, patient fashion, ESPN's Colin Cowherd reported on his radio show Thursday that in reality UM is actually moving much more quickly.

"There's a name right now being circulated in the agent world for Michigan's head coaching job," Cowherd said. "You will like it if you're at Michigan. You have no idea it's coming. I think it's a really good call, I can't believe I didn't think of it and it will make sense."

"Michigan Man" Concept Won't Influence Coaching Search

Cowherd told listeners that the mystery candidate's identity "will come out this weekend," and that Wolverines fans will think him "a great fit."

If the radio host is onto something here, this rumor would pretty much eliminate UM's favorite son, Jim Harbaugh. On Thursday former Wolverines coach Lloyd Carr, who led Michigan to their last national title in 1997, was the latest to come out with a hearty endorsement of Harbaugh. Nevertheless, Harbaugh is going to demand a hefty paycheck, and though UM is his alma mater, he's given no indication yet whatsoever that he intends to leave the pro level.
