Reserve New York Jets running back Joe McKnight says the team “is going to have to kill me to take my spot.”
McKnight, currently listed as fourth-string on the team’s depth chart, also told the New York Daily News “I don’t care who they bring in. They just bringing people in for competition, they ain’t bringing nobody in to say, ‘Joe is done.’”
Since the off season commenced, the Jets have added tailbacks Chris Ivory and Mike Goodson, making the inconsistent McKnight’s odds seem all the longer. Bilal Powell is also listed ahead of him. Still, he remained resolute.
“Yeah, I’m going to be on the team, I ain’t going no damn way,” he said. “They have to beat me to take my spot first. Man, look, they told me it’s a fresh slate.
All bravado aside, McKnight remains as a long shot in returning to New York as … say Tim Tebow. The former Florida was released just weeks ago after the Jets were surprisingly able to snare former West Virginia star quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL Draft.
Amid rumors he may have actually been blackballed among NFL teams, Tebow is now rumored to be considering offers from the Canadian Football League and a standing offer from Ron Jaowrski’s Arena Football League-owned squad.
