In case you missed it, several St. Louis Rams players took the field on Sunday with their hands raised in an effort to make a statement about the Ferguson proceedings, and the police department was not pleased about it. Jared Cook, Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, and Chris Givens all emerged from the tunnel with their hands raised as the Rams took the field, leading the police chief to demand an apology from the team.

According to media reports, the police chief claimed to receive that apology on Monday night. Police Chief Jon Belmar sent an email saying, "I received a very nice call this morning from Mr. Kevin Demoff of the St. Louis Rams who wanted to take the opportunity to apologize to our department on behalf of the Rams for the "Hands Up" gesture that some players took the field with yesterday.".

For his part, Demoff, the Rams vice president of football operations, says he did not apologize.

"In those conversations, I expressed regret that players actions were construed negatively against law enforcement," said Demoff. "At no time in any of the conversations did I apologize for the actions of our players. [The Rams] do believe it is possible to support both our players' first amendment rights and the efforts of local law enforcement to make this a better community."

Although the two sides seem at odds, the differences are pretty negligible. It certainly appears that Demoff indicated that the players did not mean to offend any police officers, which is basically an apology anyway. The Rams also released a statement on Monday saying that they want to continue their "strong and valued relationships with local law enforcement."

The NFL announced that the players will not be disciplined for the demonstration.
