Johnny Manziel has broken his silence regarding the events surrounding an allegedly physical altercation that occurred between a Cleveland Browns fan and the former Heisman winner last weekend.

According to ESPN on Nov. 29, Manziel claimed he and his roommate had tried to avoid trouble "at all costs," but the intoxicated fan's behavior made that impossible. Manziel described the fan as "putting his hands on me and kind of toying with me," and stated that he felt uneasy about the possibility of traveling in the same elevator together.

"It was a very unfortunate situation, a situation that was tried to be averted at all costs, and one that [I] was unfortunately not able to really get away from. I let [the Browns] know what really happened and wanted them to be on top of it from the very get-go," he said.

"I'm very thankful for the Browns having my back in all this and at the same time supporting me on a situation that seemed to be a little blown out of proportion."

Manziel was particularly adamant that the episode's initial reports were not indicative of how his interactions with fans truly are.

"For me, I treat every fan the same, with a lot of respect," Manziel said. "I'm very thankful for them being the fans that they are. I don't think our league would be that without them."
