Manchester City has fired its coach, Roberto Mancini, meaning that all of the coaches that won trophies in England last year have been sacked.

Roberto Di Matteo was fired from Chelsea after winning the Champions League, Kenny Daglish was fired from Liverpool after winning the Carling Cup, Brain McDermott was fired from Reading after winning the League Championship, and today's sacking of the Italian, Mancini, for the first time in history all winning coaches have been let go in the same year as their win.

After taking training at Queens Park Rangers' Loftus Road yesterday morning, Mancini was informed of his dismissal by City chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak last night on the grounds of his failure "to achieve any of his stated targets this year, with the exception of qualification for next season's Uefa Champions League".

City claimed that the decision to sack Mancini was a result of senior figures having "identified the need to develop a holistic approach to all aspects of football at the club".

City is now rumored to be looking at Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini to fill the open space vacated by Mancini, and the Chilean coach is doing little to turn down talk of the move.

Having signed a five-year deal with the club worth £7.5 million-a-year, Mancini is expected to get at least one year compensation from City, though he is unlikely to be out of work for long.

He has been in talks with a move back to Italy to work with Roma or Napoli, he will sign for a new club in the summer.
