San Francisco Giants Will Present Melky Cabrera With World Series Ring This Week

Former San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera will be presented with a World Series ring despite being banned from the team’s playoff run due to the use of a banned substance.

According to NBC Sports, Cabrera, now a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, will receive his ring this week when the Giants visit the Jays for a three game series.

Cabrera was hitting .346 with 11 homers, 84 runs and 60 RBIs when he was suspended last August 15. The Giants elected not to bring him back for the postseason when the 50-game suspension was over, and they went on to win the World Series without him.

Just the same, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he holds no hard feelings and plans to meet and speak with his former star during the team’s visit. “What happened, happened,” he told the Mercury News. “And that’s behind us. He’s a good person, he is. He was a good teammate and I’ll thank him for that.”

Bochy took a similar approach last month with the Chicago Cubs’ Nate Schierholtz. The reserve right fielder was traded shortly before Cabrera’s suspension, but he too was awarded with a ring by his former mates

Cabrera signed a two-year deal with Toronto in the offseason. He is hitting .261 with one home run.
