Titus Young: Richard Young Says His Son Suffers From Brain Disorder Related To Concussion

The father of former NFL player Titus Young says his son suffers from a brain disorder and he believes his behavior is affected by a concussion he suffered during his Detroit Lions rookie season that the team never announced.

 According to the Detroit News, Richard Young insists his son was happy and cheerful on Friday before leaving the family’s home and eventually being arrested and charged with burglary, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. The incident marked the third time the troubled Young has been arrested in the last week.

“His mind is not capable enough to go out and deal with society because of this situation,” Richard Young told The News. The elder Young said he could not remember the name of the disorder his son suffers from nor the medication he was once prescribed for it. He added his son has not been dedicated to treatment.  

”He’s not dealing with it the way he should be,” Richard Young told The News. "If the judge gives him a court order, then maybe he'll get the help he needs. He's always been temperamental. But he's changed. It's different now. I'm thinking about my son. He needs to get help and get better. When he's around us, his mind comes and goes. He can't really defend himself, and I don't want ya'll thinking he's a bad person.”

According to The News, a police spokesman said a psychological review could soon be ordered for Young but, given all the charges he faces, that will take some time as the case works its way through the system.
