The NBA season is barely 10 games old, but already some teams may be looking to the future. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets, both of whom fancy themselves contenders for the 2014-15 NBA championship, have reportedly had discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves regarding Corey Brewer.

According to Marc Stein of ESPN, multiple teams are interested in the veteran swingman, but Cleveland and Houston are currently the front-runners. Each team has a trade exception that they could use to absorb Brewer's salary without putting themselves in danger of paying the luxury tax.

Following the trade between Minnesota and Cleveland that sent star power forward Kevin Love to the Cavaliers in exchange for highly anticipated prospect Andrew Wiggins, the Timberwolves are apparently looking to speed the rebuilding process along by exchanging current assets for future ones.

It is believed that Minnesota is primarily interested in gaining future draft picks, which means teams like Cleveland and Houston would make ideal trade partners. Since they have the room to absorb Brewer's entire salary, Minnesota would not have to get any players back from either team in return.
Minnesota President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach Flip Saunders denied that there was anything to the story according to the Minnesota Star-Tribune. "That's all you guys," said Saunders to reporters. "Everyone's always trying to find something going on."
Brewer seemed nonchalant about the possibility of being traded, saying, "I've heard trade rumors all the time. It's just rumors until it happens. I've been traded twice. It doesn't affect me."
