According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Adrian Peterson backed out of a scheduled hearing with the NFL on Friday, November 14. Much has been made of Peterson's conference call hearing that will take place this afternoon regarding his grievance about remaining on the NFL's exempt list.

Peterson to Miss Game Against Packers?

The hearing from Friday was about the disciplinary action that NFL was looking to take against Peterson relating to his child abuse charges and subsequent plea agreement. The hearing had originally been scheduled for Tuesday of last week, but it got pushed to Friday due to scheduling conflicts that prevented attendance by certain parties.

According to USA Today, Peterson informed the league on Thursday that he would not be present at the Friday hearing. He supposedly told the NFL that he was happy to meet with Commissioner Goodell to discuss the potential disciplinary outcomes he faced, but he did not want to attend the official hearing because he questioned many aspects of the process, including the use of outside experts.

NFL Rejects Peterson's Bid for Immediate Reinstatement

According to ESPN, Peterson released a statement on Sunday in which he explained, "The report that I backed out of a meeting with the NFL is just not true. When Roger Goodell's office asked that I attend the 'hearing' on Friday, I consulted with my union and learned that this 'hearing' was something new and inconsistent with the CBA."

Peterson went on to claim that the NFL failed to respond in a timely manner when he and the NFL Players Association asked questions about the process and that the NFL is not being fair in its handling of his case.
