2014 will go down as the worst year of Tony Stewart's career for a multitude of reasons, but things are not all bad for Stewart-Haas Racing.
The team Stewart owns features three other drivers besides Stewart himself. One of those drivers is Kevin Harvick, the current favorite to win the Sprint Cup Championship.
Stewart's Tragic Season Nearly Over
Harvick won last week's race at Phoenix International Raceway, leaving him as one of the final four drivers that can claim the title this season.
The championship would be the first for Harvick, and Stewart - himself a three-time champion - says that he feels confident about Harvick's chances.
Stewart was quoted in an article from USA Today as saying, "I think they're as prepared as they can be. They've done a great job up to this point, and I don't think there's a team out there that's as ready as these guys are."
Stewart also mentioned that he still has a role to help Harvick and his teammates out as much as he can because the win is still good for Stewart-Haas racing, although it obviously benefits Harvick the most.
After Harvick won in Phoenix to make the final four, Stewart celebrated with him in the winner's circle, and he attended the championship contender's news conference on Wednesday to further support Harvick.
Stewart, Harvick Swap Crews for Title Run
All season long, Stewart has struggled on the track, failing to record a finish higher than fourth in any race. The season was also marred by a sprint track crash that Stewart was involved in the claimed the life of Kevin Ward Jr. Stewart repeatedly stated that he has worked to keep his personal and professional lives separate since the incident and added that, even if Harvick wins the championship, "This weekend doesn't have anything to do with me as a person."
