NASCAR Chief Divorce Docs: Brian France Divorce Papers Revealed

NASCAR Chairman Brian France went through a bitter divorce with Megan France in 2008, and although the high-powered executive fought for years to keep the court documents sealed, according to Sports Illustrated, those papers were released on Wednesday.

Those court documents revealed that his ex-wife spent "staggering" amounts of Brian's fortune on her family and friends, and alleged that he became verbally abusive to her when he "didn't get his way." His ex-wife also said that Brian rarely spent time with the couple's two children.

Brian's relationship with Megan was a strange one; the couple married in 2001 and divorced in 2004, only to re-marry in 2005. The second marriage ended in acrimony in 2008. According to SI.com, several media outlets fought to have their court documents unsealed and won their case.

According to the unsealed documents, Brian France was ordered to pay his ex-wife $9 million, $32,000 a month in alimony for 10 years, as well as $10,000 a month in child support. Brian did not comment on the revelation of these documents, and a NASCAR spokesperson said the organization does not comment on lawsuits.

These records showed that Brian had $564 million in total assets, and is set to inherit more wealth from his parents; Brian France's father Bill France founded NASCAR in 1947.

Megan painted her ex-husband in a very negative light during the proceedings, being quoted as saying "Brian has demanded that I make the children available whenever and wherever he desires. He expects me and the children to be at his 'beck and call' regardless of the specific terms of the agreement.''

Another explosive quote attributed to Megan France was, "Brian becomes verbally abusive when I will not follow his dictates...I believe Brian is continuing to try to punish me for not being willing to change the terms we agreed to in the agreement because he is now unhappy with them."
