Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, the New Jersey Devils (6-5-2, 14 points) and Detroit Red Wings (6-3-4, 16 points) face-off for the first of three meetings this season live from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The game can be live streamed here. New Jersey fans can hear all of the action on 101.9 WFAN while Detroit fans can do the same on 97.1 The Ticket.
New Jersey has lost two straight games heading into tonight and plays the second match of a three-game road trip while Detroit has lost three consecutive games and begins a four-match home stand. The Red Wings took two of three from the Devils last season.
The Devils lost both games of a home-and-home to the St. Louis Blues with the latest defeat coming Thursday night by a 4-3 margin. New Jersey received two goals by Michael Ryder in the loss.
"You lose you lose. This league is about points," Devils coach Peter DeBoer told NHL.com after Thursday's loss. "I thought we needed to be opportunistic, we had some opportunities and didn't cash in. They cashed in on theirs."
Ryder and Adam Henrique each have four goals and five assists for nine points this season, which is tied with Jaromir Jagr (two tallies, seven helpers) for the team lead.
The Red Wings return home after losing all three games on their road trip, with the last defeat being a 4-3 loss at the hands of the New York Rangers on Wednesday.
Detroit had Daniel Cleary back in the lineup for the first time since Jan. 28 Wednesday against New York and he logged 9:06 of ice time.
"[Cleary] is just a good veteran," coach Mike Babcock told the Red Wings website. "We had no life the other night, and he came in the other night and talked in the room and talked on the bench and helped us get organized and get going. That's what he's supposed to do."
Henrik Zetterberg has paced the Red Wings with 15 points off of four goals and 11 assists this season while Justin Abdelkader and Pavel Datsyuk have each found the twine five times and added five helpers for 10 points.
Detroit is likely to go with Jimmy Howard in the crease as the No. 1 goaltender is 5-2-3 with a 1.96 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage.
Cory Schneider is the probable starter between the pipes for New Jersey and he is 6-4-2 thus far this season with a 2.75 GAA and .910 save percentage.
Both teams look to snap losing skids when the puck drops on the Devils and Red Wings tonight at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
