As impressive as Rory McIlroy was in winning two majors and recapturing the No. 1 ranking in the golf world, ex-fiancée Caroline Wozniacki just one-upped him.

Wozniacki on Sunday completed the New York City Marathon, tennis.com reported. She ran the 26.2-mile race in three hours, 26 minutes for an average of seven minutes, 53 seconds per mile.

"The crowd was amazing. It was incredible. It was such an incredible experience," the 24-year-old former No. 1 ranked player said, according to ESPN.com. "I'm so happy to have done this. I'm so proud. Now I have this medal. I can say that I've done the New York City Marathon. I've even done it at a cool time. So I'm really, really happy."

The Danish tennis star decided a week before Wimbledon in June to run the marathon, according to tennis.com. That was also about a month and a half after McIlroy called Wozniacki to break off their engagement and end their relationship.

BFF Serena Williams was there to record Wozniacki's finish. Wozniack also raised $81,500 for the charity, Team for Kids, which is comprised of adult runners who raise money to give "healthy opportunities" to underprivileged kids "who otherwise have little access to regular physical activity," tennis.com reported.

Selfish sports fans worldwide are thanking McIlroy for breaking up with Wozniacki because his action ignited the careers of two elite athletes in their prime.

McIlroy won the British Open and the PGA Championship to recapture the No. 1 ranking that he originally had in 2012. He also won the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship just days after announcing his breakup with Wozniacki.

Wozniacki, who had been battling injuries throughout the spring and had hinted of retirement to start a family with McIlroy, lost in the first round of the French Open in her first tournament since the breakup. Her ranking dropped to No. 16.

But Wozniacki refused to stay down. She reached the fourth round of Wimbledon, won the Istanbul Open for her first victory of 2014 and then advanced to the finals of the U.S. Open before losing to top-seeded and best friend Serena Williams.

That helped Wozniacki rise to the No. 8 ranking and advance to the WTA Finals, where she dominated pool play in a group that included No. 2 Maria Sharapova. Only a three-set semifinals loss to Serena prevented Wozniacki from contending for the season-ending title.

Her comeback, punctuated by her marathon run, has to make her the unofficial winner in the post-breakup showdown with McIlroy.
