Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently opened up about returning to the WWE and people accusing him of taking steroids.
Johnson spoke with Fortune.com and was asked about returning to the WWE to prove he could boost the company's business and win back fans who felt he abandoned them for an acting career in Hollywood.
"We set pay-per-view buy-rate records and attendance records each time," he told the website. "I think fans realized, 'Wow, you're back, and you committed for three years, and you don't have to be here.' I had the balls to be authentic."
Johnson also addressed people in online forums that accuse him of using steroids to maintain his physique.
"Training is my anchor," Johnson said. "Being on a regimented schedule, setting a goal, failing at a goal. It's the philosophies of being an athlete that carry me today... Sure, you get a lot of people out there who will suspect, and say s-t. They want to negate the hard work you put in."
Johnson left the WWE in 2004 to pursue an acting career and took a seven-year hiatus from the company before returning to host WrestleMania XVII in 2011.
Johnson then worked back-to-back WrestleManias against John Cena the next two years before appearing alongside WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in the opening segment of WrestleMania XXX.
Johnson has kept up with his acting career but has also made sporadic appearances for the WWE. He recently showed up at RAW in Brooklyn and interrupted Rusev's segment in a one-off appearance.
Johnson has been open to a return to the WWE for another match and may even appear at WrestleMania 31 next March in California.
