Terrell Owens, who played 15 years in the NFL and was selected to six Pro Bowls, is now adding a second meaning when he's referred to as a pro bowler. According to reports, Owens made his debut last week as a professional bowler, representing Bowlers Journal International of Chicago, Owens rolled gamest of 185, 129 and 161.
Speaking with Bowl.com, Owens talked about his first time on the lanes as a pro.
The first game went pretty well," Owens said. "I'm still new to this, so when I saw some of the guys switching balls, I felt I should switch, too. I probably should have stayed with the same ball. I ended up going back to the first ball I used and made some other minor adjustments with my feet and eyes."
Owens is a part owner of the Dallas Strikers, one of eight new teams in a new Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) league. Owens compared the art of learning to roll strikes to becoming good at football. "It's all about repetition. You're only going to get out of it what you put in. I'm starting to get in a rhythm and starting to bowl a little more, so it'll come in time. I just tried to focus on some of the things I've been taught and dialed in on that." Owens previously co-owned an Indoor Football League (IFL), the Allen Wranglers, that he also played for.
In Owens' 15 NFL seasons, he amassed a litany of awards en route to becoming one of the greatest wide receivers in league history. Owens is second all-time in receiving yards (15,934), third in receiving touchdowns (153), sixth in receptions (1,078), and tenth in receiving yards per game (72.8). In addition to his six Pro Bowl selections, Owens is a five-time first team All-Pro.
The new PBA league has a host of celebrity co-owners besides Owens, including former NFL star Jerome Bettis, current NFL linebacker Lamarr Woodley, NBA star Chris Paul, former tennis great Billie Jean King, television star Jessie Williams, and comedians Chris Hardwick and Kevin Hart.
