Ajax has won its third consecutive Dutch Eredivisie title after beating Willem ll 5-0. Ajax outplayed their opponents from the start, scoring two goals by halftime courtesy of Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Christian Eriksen.

Nothing changed in the second half; Ajax kept possesion and kept on creating chance after chance, until eventually Viktor Fischer, Siem De Jong and Danny Hoesen, put them away to secure the Dutch league and leave Willem ll relegated.

Many records have been set along with the Amsterdam side's crowning. It is the 32nd time Ajax have won the title and coach Frank de Boer becomes the third man to lead the side to three consecutive league titles after Rinus Michels and Louis van Gaal. De Boer also became the first man to win the Dutch league three consecutive times as a player, and then again as a coach.

"We felt the pressure of the championship today, we played very nervously in the beginning," De Jong said. "I'm glad we finished the game the way we did."

"We deserve to be champions," Ajax coach Frank de Boer said. "I think that we were the most consistent and showed we play the best football."

Ajax rivals, PSV, went into the weekend fixtures hoping to deny Ajax the championship, but despite their 4-2 victory against NEC Nijmegen, it was not enough.

Last season's runners-up Feyenoord also had a chance to postpone Ajax's celebration if the results went their way but fell 2-0 to ADO Den Haag, securing the Cup for Ajax.
