Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET the New Orleans Pelicans and Orlando Magic will open up the NBA season at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, in a tilt that can be live streamed by clicking this link. Pelicans fans can listen to the radio broadcast on WWL 105.3, while Magic fans can do the same on ESPN 580.
The New Orleans Pelicans enter the 2014-15 season with raised expectations thanks to the development of F/C Anthony Davis, who averaged 20.8 points and 10 rebounds in addition to just less than three blocks. He reportedly grew this offseason too, and now stands close to seven feet tall.
"I got better, not just as a player, but as a person," Davis said of playing internationally this summer for Team USA at the FIBA World Cup. "Hanging around those (players) and the coaches, you're going to get better, regardless if you're playing or not."
They also got Davis some help defending the post by signing Omer Asik away from the division rival Rockets. Asik will spare Davis the task of guarding larger, more physical centers while letting him freelance more and harass players everywhere.
Additionally, New Orleans has shooting guard Eric Gordon healthy for now and when healthy he's proven to be a knockdown 3-point shooter. That can help the Pelicans who now have bigger bodies in the post, and a small forward in Tyreke Evans known more for attacking the basket than bombing jump shots.
The Magic will take the floor at less than 100 percent. Shooting guard Victor Oladipo will miss tonight's tilt, while Channing Frye and Luke Ridnour are listed as day-to-day.
