Tony Romo suffered a bruised back that temporarily knocked him out of the game Monday against the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys signal caller is set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Romo took a knee from Redskins linebacker Keenan Robinson with 7:50 remaining in the third quarter and was down on the ground for a bit before walking off and exiting the game.

The quarterback eventually returned to the contest in the fourth quarter after taking a painkilling shot and x-rays were negative.

The Cowboys (6-2) fell to the Redskins (3-5) in overtime 20-17, but the good news for Dallas coming out of the game was that Romo believes he'll be in the lineup Sunday when the team hosts the Arizona Cardinals (6-1).

"It's just hard when you lose," Romo said after game, according to ESPN. "Obviously it's the worst thing you feel like you go through. We're disappointed about this game but we're going to have to figure it out within 24 hours and move past it and move on to the next game. Obviously with the injury aspect of it, you feel like you may have dodged one from that regard. That's why you do all the things you do to hopefully withstand stuff like that."

Brandon Weeden took over for Romo for two series when he was sidelined and put up 10 points before Romo replaced him in the fourth quarter. Romo missed Dez Bryant on a fourth down pass to end the game.

Dallas coach Jason Garrett had no regrets about putting Romo back in the game, though owner and general manager Jerry Jones may not have given him much of a choice as he watched from the sidelines.

"Obviously Tony's our quarterback," Garrett said, "so if Tony's healthy and ready to go, he's going to play."

Romo finished 17-for-28 (60.71 percent) for 209 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions Monday against Washington to put him at 165-for-242 (68.2 percent) on the campaign for 1,998 yards with 15 scores and six picks.

Romo wasn't sure how practice will go this week, but he is hopeful to be ready to go when the team hosts the Cardinals Sunday at AT&T Stadium on six-days rest.

"I'm just trying to figure out how to get through tonight and tomorrow," Romo said. "We'll figure out a way to adjust and move on through the week. We've got to get ready for Arizona, and it is going to come up fast."
