Tim Hudson will take the hill for the Giants against Jeremy Guthrie.
The Royals vaunted defense will be put to the test in Game 3 at AT&T Park, where the Giants have one of MLB's trickiest outfields. "It's a little quirky out there," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said.
Lorenzo Cain, a near-.300 hitter whose offensive contributions are overshadowed by his frequent highlight-reel catches in center field, admitted that there's great potential for unforeseen plays. "With that brick wall and that chain-link fence, the ball go could go anywhere," Cain said.
Giants relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt doesn't think the ballpark factor should make San Francisco feel overly confident. "That's an athletic team over there. So I think they can make adjustments. I don't think we'll go in thinking that they're at a disadvantage because of not being at our ballpark," Affeldt said.
Hudson is a major part of the Game 3 storyline as the third-oldest pitcher ever to start his first World Series game. "Obviously, this is something I've never had to deal with at this point in my career," Hudson said.
"It's something that I've always looked forward to. I've always hoped and dreamed that this opportunity would happen for me, and here I am on the eve of obviously the biggest game I've ever pitched."
