Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has signed on as the foundation of a new HBO 30-minute dramedy about the lives of retired athletes who live in Miami.

Johnson will star in the series as well as co-executive produce it with Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg, one of the creators of the once highly-acclaimed TV series Friday Night Lights.

The production continues quite the run for the wrestler turned actor, currently starring in the box office smash Pain & Gain and slated to host the TNT reality competition series The Hero starting in June in which 10 contestants live in a house and participate in various activities geared to test their brawn, brains and even morality.

The yet-to-be-named Miami-based series marks the first time he will assume a starring role in a TV-themed production. Details about the script remain sketchy, but the production reinforces a partnership between the aforementioned duo and famed Entourage producer Stephen Levinson, who will pen the script and also executive produce.

Johnson, who still also occasionally stars on the World Wrestling Entertainment circuit, is currently recuperating from hernia surgery stemming from an injury he sustained last month during a championship match against John Cena.

Johnson was also once starred as a member of the University of Miami football team, winning a national title with the Hurricanes in 1991.
