Benfica has advanced to their its Europa League final since 1982 yesterday, as it beat Turkish side Fenerbahce 3-1 in Portugal.

Portuguese side S.L Benfica have never won a Europa League Cup but will have their first chance in 31 years after turning around a 1-0 defecit into a 3-2 aggregate and advancing to the Finals in Estadio Da Luz.

Fenerbahce took the lead in last week's home game in Turkey where they won by the minimum, ending the match 1-0.

Argentinean striker Nicolas Gaitan opened the scoring to level the score 1-1 early in the 1st half, as he put away a short pass in the ninth minute.

12 minutes later a penalty was awarded to Fenerbahce, and put away by former Liverpool midfielder Dirk Kuyt, putting the Turkish side up 2-1.

Benfica took control of the game from then on, and in the 35th minute, Paraguayan international Oscar Cardozo scored to even the tally at 2-2 at half time.

In the 65th minute of the second half, the Paraguayan struck again to put The Eagles in the lead for the first time.

With this win, Benfica head into the final to meet with English side Chelsea which will be played on may 15th in the 48,000 seater stadium in Amsterdam.
