The NFL has made it clear that it plan to make the move back Los Angeles in the ‘next 12-24’ months, but now it has a front-runner.

According to NBC Sports, the St. Louis Rams are the favorites to play in Los Angeles, followed by the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers.

“Of the three teams viewed as the most likely to move — the Rams, Raiders, and Chargers — the team viewed by the NFL as most likely to make the move is the Rams.

If it’s the Rams, the most likely location for a new stadium becomes the land owner Stan Kroenke purchased last year at Hollywood Park. AEG’s proposed downtown stadium is believed to hinge on owner Philip Anschutz purchasing a significant piece of the anchor tenant.”

The Rams can leave Edward Jones Dome after this season at any point, but the city of St. Louis is attempting to get the team a new open-air stadium. If the Chargers were to make the move instead of the Rams, they are rumored to get a larger piece of the relocation fee.

The Rams started in Cleveland in 1936 before departing for Los Angeles in 1946. The Rams left Los Angeles for St. Louis before the 1995 NFL season. The Rams are the only NFL franchise to win a championship in two different cities.
