Wayne Rooney has just two seasons left on his current 250,000 euro a week contract, but boss Sir Alex Ferguson hints that there is a future for him with Manchester United. Concerns have been voiced about Rooney's condition and his lack important goals, which made him a staple with United, and many have questioned his future at such a high level club.

Rooney has been linked with many teams for a move away from Old Trafford, including Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United local rivals Manchester City, but his agent, Paul Stretford is going to talk wages with United to agree on a salary for the Red Devils No. 10.

Rooney was left on the bench for United's quarter final game against Real Madrid and relations between player and coach were said to have worsened from there.

Nike has also said to be a big part of the Englishman's continuation with the club, as they provide the kits and are Rooney's personal sponsor.

United has been linked with many forwards to replace Rooney, most recently with Borussia Dortmund front man Robert Lewandowski to be the first choice.

Ferguson told Inside Review: "Hopefully the players we bring into the club in the next year or so will be of the quality we need. We're competitive in the market - we're not Chelsea or Manchester City in terms of money but we're competitive."

Wayne Rooney has made 277 official caps for United and has scored 141 goals.
