Iker Casillas, 31, has gone from being an undisputed World Cup, Euro Cup and La Liga champion and Spanish giant Real Madrid captain, to becoming third goalie choice for Jose Mourinho being Diego Lopez and Antonio Adan.

With Lopez entering the side, Casillas lost his first place position, but is determined to stay in the Bernabeu and fight for the number one spot.

He said after receiving an award from the City of Madrid today: "My future is at Real Madrid because I have a contract with them and because I've been there since I was nine. It's my life-long club and where I would like to be."

During the past season, there were many reported stirs between the Spanish players on Madrid and the Portuguese staff and players, putting Sergio Ramos and Casillas in the eye of the media.

Casillas has been linked to a number of clubs outside Spain. MLS, Italy and most recently Arsenal, but he has expressed he has no intent in leaving Los Merengues and will retire in the club that gave him his entry into high-level football.

"Now what we need to do is think about what's next, which is to try and get as many points as possible in the league, for the club and for the team. And then fight for the Copa del Rey, which will be a different final, nice, at the Bernabeu, and we need to try and win it for the fans, who deserve some joy."
