Arsenal Transfer News: Edinson Cavani Tells PSG He Wants Premier League Move, Arsenal Favorites for His Signature

Though Danny Welbeck has performed up to standard since joining Arsenal from Manchester United (four goals in six appearances), the Gunners are in line to add a world-class striker in the January transfer window. According to Metro (via Goal Transfer Talk), Edinson Cavani has told Paris Saint-Germain that he favors a move to the Barclay's Premier League. The reigning Ligue 1 champions would require £55 million pounds to trigger the Uruguayan's release clause.

Per the reports, Arsenal are the current favorites for his services.

Not known for their lavish expenditures, manager Arsene Wenger and the club's board of directors have loosened the purse strings in recent transfer windows. The acquisitions of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez amounted to £77.5 million alone. At the club's annual general meeting, Wenger hinted at said purse strings being loosed once more.

"We won the FA Cup with a difficult run, but we managed to deliver the trophy and it makes us stronger, more confident and I believe we will have a strong season," the Frenchman said (via the Daily Mail). "We bought good players. I believe we've done remarkably well in the transfer market. We wanted one more player, but couldn't. We will try to rectify that in January."

"We have a good core of young British players, who feel the value of our club," he added. "Slowly, the modern game has lost that, but we need your support again. I encourage you to be behind us. You are magnificent, and I'm sure we will come out this season more united and stronger."

With a front line of Sanchez, Welbeck and Cavani, the Gunners will undoubtedly be stronger. But without the presence of a competent defensive midfielder, it won't be enough to overtake a complete Chelsea side.
