Today at 4:07 p.m. ET the Kansas City Royals will aim to complete a stunning sweep of the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series when they take the field for Game 4. Watch the action on TBS or live stream it free by clicking this link. Royals fans can hear the radio broadcast on KCSP 610, while Orioles fans may do the same on 1090 WBAL. Miguel Gonzalez will try to stave off the red-hot Royals lineup for the O's while Kansas City will turn to Jason Vargas.
One of the key elements of Kansas City's Cinderella run has been a lock-down bullpen that has slammed the door on opponents not only in the playoffs, but all season.
"We take pride in that," closer Greg Holland told MLB's official website. "Our preparation, our work ethic, we feel like if we collectively get the lead or tie a ballgame that we should win every one of those."
They also have a staff that, as a whole, limited home runs this season. The Orioles were reliant on home runs in 2014 and have struggled to find their power stroke. That has allowed Kansas City to build a three-game lead, and avoid using their struggling ace James Shields.
Instead Vargas, who tamed a tough Angels lineup in his most recent action, will try to keep his great season going. "I feel fine. Definitely rested," Vargas said.
"Had some bullpen sessions and everything feels fine. I've never had this much rest. So I couldn't give you a good guideline on what I'll be looking for. But I'll be ready to go and be ready to try to execute my game plan and execute pitches."
Gonzalez hasn't toed the rubber in two weeks, even longer than Vargas. He expressed confidence that it won't affect him in this do-or-die game.
"It's been two weeks, but I've been preparing myself to stay focused and I've had a couple of bullpens and a live BP," Gonzalez said. "So I'm excited. I'm excited to go out there and give my team a chance to win a ballgame."
