The Florida State athletic department has opened up an investigation into to determine if quarterback Jameis Winston sign autographs for money.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said he asked Winston if he received money for any autographs after the Seminoles 38-20 win Saturday against Syracuse. Winston told Fisher he did not and the coach is now standing by his Heisman Trophy winning quarterback.

"Kids sign things all the time," Fisher said after Saturday's game. "So what do you want them to do, stop signing stuff? We could make them not have any fans from that standpoint and not sign for anybody. That's what it's going to come to, and that's a shame for college football, that somebody exploits a kid. Now, if they're getting paid for it, then I don't have any knowledge of that. I don't believe Jameis did.”

James Spence Authentication certified more than 500 autographs of Georgia running back Todd Gurley and now they will do the same for Winston to determine if he did indeed receive money for his signature.

According to Martin Buckley, co-owner of Palm Beach Autographs in Florida, the signature they obtained is that of Winston and they have a through process to see if the autographs are authentic.

"The items that I've seen signed by Todd Gurley and Jameis Winston, which have been authenticated by JSA, look like they came from an autograph signing," said Buckley "This is based on the items themselves being similar, the quantities of those items, the consistency of signature as well as similar spots in which they signed.”

No. 2 Florida State has a showdown with No. 5 Notre Dame this weekend and it is unknown if Winston will be suiting ip for that matchup.
