Today at 1:00 p.m. ET an NFC North showdown between the Minnesota Vikings (2-3) and Detroit Lions (3-2) will get underway at TCF Bank Stadium on FOX. The Vikings were slammed on Thursday Night Football in Week 5 with Christian Ponder under center, but this week they should have rookie Teddy Bridgewater back from a sprained ankle. After a 19-for-30, 317-yard performance in his starting debut, Bridgewater wasn't able to play on short rest.
He has participated fully in practice this week, and should be in the starting lineup. He will be facing the No. 1 defense in the league this week though, and knows it.
"They're the No. 1 defense and we know that it's going to be a challenge for us, not only up front but in the passing game also," Bridgewater said. "We're just going to try our best to execute the game plan."
The Lions' game plan is likely to dramatically change. Star wideout Calvin Johnson has been suffering from a high ankle sprain for the last two weeks, and may need to sit out this week's action.
"You want to be smart. You don't want to put yourself in a position where you can't be there for the team when it comes down to it there at the end, and that's what we're trying to be smart about right now," Johnson said.
"Anytime you're dealing with an ankle, you got to run, you got to cut and do all those things, so it makes it tough. Just a lot of treatment that goes into it. Take some time to rest and get off your feet as well."
