TNA reportedly made a play for CM Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, and had plans in place to make him the top star in the company.
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, TNA reached out to Punk in a similar way to what they did with Alberto Del Rio after he was released from the WWE as the organization went through a friend of Punk's in hopes to convince the "Best in the World" to join the company.
Per the report, the idea pitched for Punk would have featured huge plans for him to be the top star in TNA and he would have made similar to the type of money the company was paying wrestling legend Hulk Hogan when he was on board.
The company had the idea of making Punk the No. 1 star and hoped that signing him would lead to a huge television deal for their flagship show Impact Wrestling, which will be dropped by Spike TV in 2015 because the network is looking to get out of the pro wrestling business.
While the idea was strong and would have been lucrative for Punk, the report indicates that he expressed no interest in working for TNA as he doesn't have any desire to get back into the pro wrestling business.
Punk has been out of the squared circle since he walked out on the WWE back in January over frustration due to the way his character was being used and also because he was burned out from the company's rigorous traveling schedule.
Punk has made many outside appearances since his departure, including at the AP Music Awards where he said he was "never ever" returning to the squared circle.
Punk's contract from with the WWE officially expired in July and things were said to be worse than ever between the two sides and they probably got even worse when Punk's lawyers sent a 22-page letter to the WWE over royalties linked to the use of his likeness for the WWE 2K15 video game.
Punk married WWE Diva AJ Lee in June, and she has continued to work for the company while it appears he won't return.
TNA attempted to make a huge play at Punk, but ultimately failed to land the "Best in the World" in a move that would have shocked the wrestling landscape.
