Danny Garcia, the junior welterweight WBC and WBA champion, is expected to face Viktor Postol, the WBC No. 1 contender in his next fight. His father and trainer Angel Garcia appears to be positioning his son for a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. though.

While Garcia has been criticized for facing underwhelming opposition in his last two fights, victories over Mauricio Herrera and Rod Salka, his resume does have signature wins on it. Like Mayweather, he is an undefeated titlist, and he also has a knockout win over Amir Khan, whom many view as the frontrunner to be Mayweather's next opponent.

"Floyd is the best pound for pound fighter in the world and is extremely gifted," Angel Garcia said. "My son is also an extremely gifted fighter. Both men receive their natural gifts from the big man. It's something that we'll never understand, and only they two can understand."

"When you get two naturally gifted fighters like Danny and Floyd and put them together in the ring, you get a holy war. Floyd is the king, and Danny is the prince. Is the prince ready to take over the throne? That would be the question should they meet in the ring next year."

First, Garcia would likely have to make the jump to welterweight after his upcoming fight with Postol. Fans have clamored for Garcia to have a rematch with Lucas Matthysse, as their September 2013 bout on the Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez card was one of the top fights of the year.

Garcia's shown no interest in giving Matthysse another chance at his title, however, and has resisted calls to fight his friend Adrien "The Problem" Broner. Aside from a unification bout against Lamont Peterson, there is not much left for Garcia to accomplish at 140 lbs., nor are there a plethora of attractive opponents for Mayweather at 147 lbs.

Still, Khan and Manny Pacquiao remain the best bets to face Mayweather when he next steps into the ring.
