After a devastating collapse to the Cleveland Browns, the Tennessee Titans could be turning to a rookie quarterback for the rest of the season.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Titans could soon look to see what they have in rookie Zach Mettenberger if the season continues to go down the drain. The Titans currently sit at 1-4 and blew an NFL-record 25 point lead in the second half against the Browns at home.
Detroit Lions to Sit Calvin Johnson?
The move shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has watched the Titans play this season as they have switched off between the oft-injured Jake Locker and eternal backup Charlie Whitehurst at quarterback. If the season continues down this road, playing Mettenberger is a win-win situation for the Titans.
The Titans can either find a potential starting quarterback in the former LSU Tiger or they will continue to be putrid and end up with a top-3 draft pick. The Titans host the winless Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and something has to give between the worst the AFC South has to offer.
Mettenberger would join, Blake Bortles in Jacksonville, Derek Carr in Oakland, Logan Thomas in Arizona, Jimmy Garoppolo in New England and Teddy Bridgewater in Minnesota as rookie quarterbacks who have seen time as starter. None of these players started the season for their team.
