These days it isn't rare for the girlfriend of a high-profile college quarterback to be in the news, but Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight's girlfriend Kate Williams is making headlines recently for an unexpected reason.

Williams is in the media now because she's the reason Knight can't accept a date with pop music megastar Katy Perry. Perry was the guest picker on College Gameday on Saturday and, likely jokingly, held up a heart-shaped sign with Knight's picture and asked the Sooners quarterback to call her.

Perry said she picked Oklahoma to beat TCU because of Knight's good looks. Perry's request might have been the distraction that led to Knight throwing a game-clinching pick-six that helped TCU win, 37-33.

Williams is a chemical engineering major at Oklahoma and a Tri Delt sorority member. She is pretty religious, posting Bible verses and retweeting Joel Osteen on her Twitter account. She doesn't post many bikini photos like her college-football-girlfriend counterparts Lindsey Duke and Katherine Webb, just various pictures of her and knight together:

Knight is a third-year sophomore after redshirting in 2012. He was named MVP of the 2014 Sugar Bowl after leading Oklahoma to a 45-31 win over two-time defending national champion Alabama, throwing for 348 yards and four touchdowns.

For Knight, he has to focus on getting the Sooners into the college football playoffs. With this season already seeing multiple upsets of top teams, it's possible for a one-loss team to qualify for the postseason so he and Oklahoma can't afford another loss.
