The Detroit Lions have cut kicker Alex Henery after he missed three field goals in his first and only start for the Lions.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said it’s unfortunate to lose games on missed field goals, but they will get the situation figured out in the near future.

"It's one of those things we'll look at it closely and we've got to find a performer," Lions coach Jim Caldwell said. "That's basically what we have to get done. In that area you've got to get a guy who is consistent under pressure and will be able to get us some points on the board.”

The Lions have already made a series of calls to kickers Matt Prater, Jay Feely and Connor Barth and one of them will likely be the team’s kicker next Sunday. Prater is the odds on favorite to get the nod seeing how he was one of the best kickers in the NFL last season.

Prater was cut by the Broncos after he was suspended four games by the NFL for violating their substance abuse policy and the emergence of current Denver kicker Brandon McManus.

The Lions also tried out former Saints kicker Garrett Hartley and the late Rob Bironas after cutting Nate Freese two weeks ago. The Lions have missed eight field goals through five games this season and the NFL record for missed kicks in a season is 15.

The Lions are four for 12 field goals on the season.
